School of Nursing Welcomes First Class in Amarillo
WHAT: The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Nursing will host a reception to welcome its inaugural class of Second Degree students to Amarillo.
WHEN: 11 a.m. Sept. 6 (Friday)
WHERE: TTUHSC at Amarillo, 1400 Coulter St., Basement foyer
EVENT: Speakers at the event will be TTUHSC School of Nursing Dean Michael L. Evans, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN, Melinda Mitchell Jones, MSN, J.D., R.N.
Department Chair for Non-Traditional Undergraduate Studies and Erika O’Connor, a student in the second degree nursing program.
The School of Nursing expanded its Web-based Second Degree Program to Amarillo in January. The program is designed for students with a previous college degree. The accelerated 12-month program includes coach and nurse educator oversight in the student’s own communities in Abilene, Lubbock, Austin, El Paso, the Permian Basin and now Amarillo. Students in the Amarillo program will gain on-site clinical experience at Northwest Texas Hospital, Baptist St. Anthony’s Health System and the Amarillo Veterans Affairs Health Care System.
