SOAHS Donor Luncheon
The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Allied Health Sciences held their Donor Appreciation Luncheon on Wednesday, September 10 as more than 50 students and faculty of the SOAHS joined together to thank donors who have generously provided scholarships to the school.
The luncheon, which occurs annually in the fall, took place at the International Cultural Center – Hall of Nations room where President Tedd L. Mitchell and Dean Robin Satterwhite shared the successes of the Health Sciences Center and graciously thanked the donors for their support of educating others. The School of Allied Health Sciences has the second-highest enrollment of any school at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center with over 1,400 students enrolled in Fall 2014.
Additionally, Occupational Therapy student Karla Arredondo and Speech Language Pathology student Alex Gibson, both shared moving testimonials of how receiving scholarships has had such a transformational impact on their lives. Arredondo was especially grateful her hard work had been recognized and rewarded and jumped at the opportunity to express her appreciation to the donors.
“I grew up working hard for the things I wanted and knowing I could only rely on myself to achieve them,” Arredondo said. “I think the luncheon is important to both donors and students because it allows us– the students– to personally thank the donors. In turn, we become a voice and a face to them, and they know their money is going towards the betterment of an individual directly, and of society in a broader sense."
The SOAHS currently offers 19 different degree programs at the doctoral, masters and baccalaureate degree levels across campuses in Lubbock, Amarillo, and the Permian Basin. To learn more about the SOAHS, please visit www.ttuhsc.edu/sah.
