The Texas Tech Board of Regents on Friday approved the university system’s smallest budget increase in 20 years with a nearly $1.5-billion package, including more than $13 million in increased spending.

After previewing the proposal Thursday, regents reconvened Friday on the Tech campus and approved the fiscal year 2012 budget, featuring an increase of $13.4 million, or just under 1 percent, over last year’s budget for the system that includes Tech, the Health Sciences Center and San-Angelo-based Angelo State University. The new fiscal year begins Sept. 1.
