TTUHSC Students and US Army Give Insight to Health Care Professions
For nearly 25 years, Deployable Rapid Assembly Shelter (DRASH™) systems have been fielded to U.S. Army Forward Surgical Teams as mobile medical facilities that can be deployed with troops directly in the combat zone. According to the U. S. Army, the shelters’ rapid-erect and strike design has allowed medical personnel to set up within minutes of arrival and provide wounded soldiers with immediate access to life-saving trauma stabilization.
High school and undergraduate students, as well as current professionals, had the opportunity to see DRASH™ first hand at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Future Health Care Professionals’ Experience April 11.
Eric Edwards, TTUHSC Student Government Association president and FHCPE committee member, said this event gave individuals interested in pursing health care related professions insight to all fields.
“This experience featured informative sessions from all disciplines and was aimed at anyone interested in a health care career including those non-traditional students looking at going back to school for another degree,” Edwards said.
All five schools, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, School of Medicine, School of Pharmacy, School of Allied Health Sciences and School of Nursing had faculty, students and staff present to discuss and demonstrate what a career in each of their respective programs entails.
More than 267 students attended the event with 50 TTUHSC student volunteers including SGA members, Dean’s Ambassadors and other student groups.
