To help combat Texas' nursing shortage, the University of Texas of the Permian Basin is on track to start a bachelor of science in nursing program in fall 2012.

Currently, the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing at Odessa is the area's only program where students can earn a bachelor of science in nursing. Students begin the program after completing prerequisites online or at other campuses.
