Hazlewood Exemption (State)

The Hazlewood Act is a State of Texas benefit that provides qualified veterans, spouses, and dependent children with an education benefit of up to 150 hours of tuition exemption, including most fee charges, at public institutions of higher education in Texas. This does NOT include living expenses, books and supply fees, and mandatory Student Health Insurance fees. See the Texas Veterans Commission website for additional program details.

How to Request the Hazlewood Exemption

Students will submit either: Hazlewood Application (if using exemption for the first time at HSC or after a break in enrollment). Beyond the first semester, students will submit a Continued Enrollment Application. Submit any supporting documentation via HSC benefits portal every semester, after registration. Terms will be available in the portal by the first week of registration.
