Program Overview
The Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Finance and Economics (CRHF) is available for working professionals who would like to expand their knowledge and further their education in healthcare finance and economics without pursuing a full graduate degree in healthcare administration. It is a flexible, 100% online, 12-semester hour program, provided in an accelerated 8-week format.
Courses that meet the academic requirements are eligible to transfer into the Master of Science in Healthcare Administration program, should you choose to continue on towards the MSHA degree.

HPHC 5311 Healthcare Finance

It is preferred that students take courses 5320 and either 5321 or 5323 within the Certificate program. If an MSHA student has taken one or two of those courses as electives within the MSHA program, then they may take an optional elective to make up for each of those courses.

Four courses are required for this certificate. A maximum of two core courses (5311 and 5313) may be transferred from the MSHA program to the Certificate program.
CRHF graduates may enroll in the MSHA program. They may transfer two core courses from the Certificate Program into the MSHA program.

HPHC 5311 Healthcare Finance This course introduces students to the core concepts of financial management in healthcare, including interpretation of financial reports, financial ratio analysis, cost and profit analysis, planning and budgeting, time value analysis, financing, investments, capital budgeting, and current accounts management. The purpose of this class is to assist the student in developing the necessary analytical ability, attitudes, and decision making skills required of a healthcare manager in a changing environment.
HPHC 5313 Healthcare Economics and Policy The course introduces the concepts of economic theory and analysis within the health services industry, focusing on healthcare consumption, supply and demand, healthcare resource allocation, and the impact of health policy on the delivery of healthcare in the U.S.
HPHC 5320 Health Insurance and Reimbursement This course provides an overview of health insurance, including public and private payers, self-funded insurance, managed care, health insurance markets, and policy changes that impact these areas. In addition, the course will cover healthcare payment systems and reimbursement methods of various payers in the health services marketplace.
HPHC 5321 Healthcare Operations & Supply Chain Management This course examines operational issues in healthcare management. Healthcare operations topics include systems analysis, forecasting, facility location and design models, decision analysis techniques, inventory control, CQI and statistical quality control. The course also integrates key components of supply chain management, including strategic sourcing and purchasing, acquisition, logistics, inventory management, and point of use applications, providing understanding, knowledge and evaluation models to operate and manage an organization's enterprise resource planning and management system
HPHC 5323 Healthcare Business Innovation & Entrepreneurship This course will explore the evolving world of healthcare innovation from a business perspective to include the entrepreneurial side of human health advancements. Technology is an institutional imperative driving innovation through value-chain optimization and strategic convergence and/or divergence across all sub-sectors within healthcare, including sectors such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices and health informatics. The course will evaluate the entrepreneurial process, strategic thinking and new venture exploration while focusing on rapid growth and technological implementation and cost considerations within the healthcare sector.

How to Apply
Online Application
Applicants for the MSHA program must complete the TTUHSC SHP application. Additional Forms will be added to your checklist after you have submitted the online application. Required supporting documentation (if applicable) can be uploaded from your Student Status page.
Application Fee
A non-refundable $75 application fee is required and may be paid by credit card through the online application system.
If you prefer to pay by check or money order, make it payable to TTUHSC and mail it to:

Transcripts
Paper Transcripts: Transcripts must be in an official sealed envelope by the institution and sent to our mailing address:

Email PDF Transcripts: Submit official electronic transcripts from every college or university attended directly from the institution or an approved third-party transcript service to shp.application@ttuhsc.edu.
Please note:
Do not send transcripts to Texas Tech University, as TTUHSC is a separate institution and doing so will delay application processing.
Official TTUHSC transcripts are not required; official Texas Tech University transcripts are required.
Transcripts from international institutions must include an official course-by-course evaluation from a recognized Foreign Transcript Evaluation Service.
Applicants are responsible for ensuring all required application materials, including updated transcripts, are received by the application deadline.
Admissions Requirements
The certificate program begins three times a year, in the Summer, Fall and Spring. The online application and all supporting documentation must be received by the deadline.
Official GRE Scores
The certificate program does not require GRE or GMAT scores for admission.
Bachelor's Degree
A Bachelor's Degree is required for admission.
Admission to Certificate Program:
To be considered for admission, applicants must have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Minimum overall GPA of 2.7. The overall GPA includes all undergraduate and graduate coursework completed from all institutions attended.
The following are considered in the admissions process:
- All official college transcripts
- Acceptable grade point average

A current resume is required to be submitted through the online application system.

Application Process
Applications are considered on a rolling basis for acceptance into the professional program. It is in the applicant's best interest to complete their application, including submission of required documentation, as early as possible. The following are considered in the admissions process: GPA, and working in healthcare (or related) experience. Fulfillment of the basic requirements does not guarantee admission.

TTUHSC relies on a variety of financial aid sources to increase the university's affordability. This may include scholarships, grants, student loans, and waivers. As a student, please know that you and your family have a dedicated financial aid advisor who can assist you with this process.
Certifications
The Graduate Certificate Programs provided by the Department of Healthcare Management and Leadership at TTUHSC are designed for working professionals who would like to expand their knowledge and further their education. They are flexible, 100% online, 12-credit hour programs, provided in an accelerated 8-week format. The Long-Term Care Administration is a 15-credit hour certificate program.
Six credit hours will transfer into the MSHA with regards to the 12-credit hour certificate programs should you choose to continue on towards the MSHA degree. Nine credit hours will transfer into the MSHA program from the Long-Term Care Administration (15-credit hour) certificate. Cumulatively, this will complete a total of 42-credit hours between the MSHA coursework and the selected 12-credit hour or 15-credit hour certificate of choice. A maximum of two courses may be transferred from the MSHA program to the Certificate Program or from the Certificate Program to the MSHA Program.
