MD/JD Lubbock Dual Degree

The MD/JD program is a six-year program designed specifically for individuals interested in the areas of health law, health care policy, bioterrorism, forensics or biomedical compliance. The dual degree program of study is administered by the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine and Texas Tech University School of Law.  Students complete 78 hours of coursework in the School of Law between the third and fourth years of the MD program.

Important Factors for Admission

School of Medicine

School of Law

  • The School of Law does not require a specific major or undergraduate curriculum.
  • Courses in the liberal arts and in public speaking are recommended as they can help prepare students for the rigors of law school.
  • All Applicants must have the following:
    • A minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.50 as calculated on the Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS) Report prepared by the Law School Admission Council (LSAC).
    • A Law School Admission Test (LSAT) score placing the applicant in the top quarter nation-wide.
    • A minimum of 90 semester hours of undergraduate credit earned by the time of application and provide proof of completion of a bachelor's degree at the time of matriculation.

  • Prior to matriculation, a satisfactory criminal background check (CBC) is required.
  • The applicant must make arrangements to have the results of his or her criminal background check released to the Law School.

Cost & Aid

The expenses for tuition and fees will vary between the schools. Accepted students will need to consult a financial aid advisor at each institution prior to matriculation. Students are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA). Accepted students will be eligible for scholarships at both schools. Scholarship recipients must remain in good academic and non-academic standing for continued scholarship eligibility.
