Program Overview
Health care management, also referred to as health care administration, encompasses all the responsibilities inherent in managing today’s complex health care delivery systems and facilities.
Health care managers are highly-skilled professionals who are tasked with planning, directing, and coordinating medical and health services and ensuring that the institutions and systems they manage are in full compliance with health care laws and regulations and up to date on new technologies.
Health care managers and administrators may manage an entire facility, such as a hospital, a specific clinical area or specialized department, an emergency services operation, or a medical practice for a physician or group of physicians.

Curriculum & Coursework
The BSHM program combines upper-level undergraduate courses with credits earned from your associate degree the common core requirements. Once accepted, students will work with enrollment management to create a degree plan based on the BSHM course rotation.

How to Apply
Online Application
Applicants for the BSHM program must complete the TTUHSC SHP application. Additional forms will be added to your checklist after you have submitted the online application. Required supporting documentation (if applicable) can be uploaded from your Student Status page.
Application Fee
A non-refundable $75 application fee is required and may be paid by credit card through the online application system.
If you prefer to pay by check or money order, make it payable to TTUHSC and mail it to:

Transcripts
By Mail: Transcripts must be in an official sealed envelope by the institution and sent to our mailing address:

Electronically: Submit official electronic transcripts from every college or university attended directly from the institution or an approved third-party transcript service to shp.application@ttuhsc.edu.
Please note:
Do not send transcripts to Texas Tech University, as TTUHSC is a separate institution and doing so will delay application processing.
Official TTUHSC transcripts are not required; official Texas Tech University transcripts are required.
Transcripts from international institutions must include an official course-by-course evaluation from a recognized Foreign Transcript Evaluation Service.
Applicants are responsible for ensuring all required application materials, including updated transcripts, are received by the application deadline.

The BSHM program's enrollment period occurs three times a year, in the Summer, Fall and Spring. The online application and all supporting documentation must be received by the deadline. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Outlook Handbook projects that jobs for health managers and administrators will increase by 23% through 2034, much faster than average for all professions.
Prerequisites
Applicants to the BSHM program must have completed all of the 42 credit hours of the Texas Common Core requirements to be considered for admission to the BSHM program. Additionally applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Common Core Requirements
Completion of 42 credit hours of Texas Common Core Requirements prior to matriculation.
Proof of Licensure
If applying for the Healthcare Professional concentration, you will be required to submit proof of licensure for your specific emphasis. This will be submitted through the online application system.
International Applicants

Healthcare Professional Concentration
Students entering the Healthcare Professional Concentration must have a certification, license or registration in one of the health science concentrations listed below and completed the Texas Common Core curriculum for a baccalaureate degree.

Executive Management Concentration
Students entering the Executive Concentration must have completed the Texas Common Core curriculum as well as a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

With the ever-growing demand for and expansion of health care services, the health management and administration field is developing rapidly, and job growth is especially strong.
- The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Outlook Handbook projects that jobs for health managers and administrators will increase by 23% through 2034, much faster than average for all professions.
- According to the BLS, most medical and health services managers have at least a bachelor’s degree; a master’s degree may be necessary for further career advancement. Health care managers generally have administrative or clinical experience in a hospital or other type of health care facility.
