Resident Wellness Curriculum

Hello surgery residents!

We have been collaborating with Dr. Riall (University of Arizona) and Dr. Abdelfattah (UT Southwestern)  and TTUHSC Wellness to develop an employee-focused program that offers education, fitness, nutrition and work stress management.

What do we have planned for the wellness curriculum this year?  Let me tell you!  We will be having a monthly wellness topic during Wednesday conference, ranging from ergonomics to coping mechanisms.

The wellness topics that I have planned are as follows:

  1. Energy Leadership
  2. Stress Reduction Techniques and Resources
  3. Goal Setting
  4. Team Building
  5. Work Life Integration
  6. Mindfulness for the Surgeon
  7. Posture and Ergonomics
  8. Strategic Diet, Exercise and Sleep
  9. Goals/Visioning

We will be sending out weekly surveys via email to check in with you.  These are 100% voluntary.  It is a way for us to routinely touch base and give you a way to let us know how things are going for you, if you choose.

In addition, we are organizing quarterly team building/bonding activities for you to be able to spend time with your colleagues and not be wearing scrubs.   You may have noticed that the department has started providing some snacks for the resident room.  Enjoy!

Join us!  The running club.

It meets at 7pm in front of the East Tower.  Walkers/joggers/runners all welcome!
