The School of Nursing offers our highly acclaimed RN to BSN degree program to help you go beyond the basics and reach your potential as a nurse. Registered nurses can find the flexibility and timeline they need with this program, since the courses are accessible on the web. Our online RN to BSN program means you have access to academic education at work or at home, wherever or whenever you want to study. Our faculty are ready to build on your experience by examining new trends and theories, exploring critical issues, emphasizing applicable professional nursing practices and incorporating concepts of holistic care.

All Texas Core Curriculum requirements (CC) as established by Texas legislation must be successfully completed prior to enrollment in the RN to BSN program, and prior to course attendance at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center campus. Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center does not offer general education courses. General education requirements completed at a private or out-of-state institution may not be equivalents of the required Texas Core Curriculum, and may not excuse a student from not completing the core curriculum. Effective Spring 2021 admissions cycle: TTUHSC School of Nursing is no longer requiring CHEM 1305 & 1105 or 1406 or 1411 (4 SCH) as a prerequisite for the RN to BSN Program.

If an applicant has already successfully taken Chemistry, those hours will be counted toward the required 54 SCH pre-requisites for consideration of admissions into the program.  This includes the mandate for all applicants to be core complete. 

If an applicant has not taken CHEM 1305 & 1105 or 1406 or 1411 (4 SCH), they now have the option to take an additional 4 SCH of electives which would count toward the required 54 SCH as well as meeting core curriculum requirements.

School of Nursing Requirements

In addition to being Texas Core Complete, please find below the necessary pre-requisites for admission into the RN to BSN Program.

Some of these pre-requisites may count toward being Texas Core Complete.

* Course numbers listed are based on the Texas Common Course Numbering System (TCCNS). Check with your academic institution to verify the course number that corresponds with the TCCNS number.

Transfer Credit

Courses provided from other institutions with equivalent course content are acceptable for transfer credit if a "C" or better was earned. Note: pass/fail courses are not acceptable for transfer. Maximum credits allowed for CLEP or correspondence courses are 15 each.

If any of the pre-requisites have been or will be CLEPPED you will not receive credit towards the GPA we calculate. CLEP credit must be on an official college transcript for us to accept it.

Can You Complete RN to BSN Online?

Our RN to BSN program has 100% online coursework, plus a direct care component, which means you have access to academic education at work or at home, wherever or whenever you want to study. The flexible online format includes coursework on topics like leadership, research, and advanced nursing practices, all designed to build on your existing clinical skills.

Are RN to BSN Tuition Benefits Available Through Hospitals, Employers, or Nursing Associations?

Yes, many hospitals, employers, and nursing associations offer tuition benefits or financial assistance for RN to BSN programs. Some employers may provide tuition reimbursement, scholarships, or financial incentives to support nurses in advancing their education. Additionally, nursing associations and community colleges may have partnerships or offer discounts for RN to BSN students. It's a good idea to check with your employer or local nursing associations to see what options are available.

If you are turning in an affidavit for vaccination exemption, you must hand deliver or mail the original affidavit to Office of Institutional Health.  State law requires Student Health has the original in possession.  While TTUHSC accepts this affidavit for vaccination exemption, please be aware that clinical practice sites may not accept these affidavits for vaccination exemptions (medical exemptions are accepted) resulting in an inability to complete clinical rotations unless in compliance.  Students should be aware that this could delay or prevent clinical site placement and/or graduation.

Please review the required immunizations for your program by going to the TTUHSC Office of Institutional Health’s page and clicking on “Student Pre-Matriculation Forms”.  Completed immunization forms and required documentation should be sent to Tina Martinez at tinsteph@ttuhsc.edu.  

• Graduate Students, Traditional BSN Students (Abilene, Amarillo, Lubbock, and Odessa) and Accelerated BSN Students (Abilene, Amarillo, Austin, Lubbock, Odessa, and San Antonio) – Use the School of Nursing – Undergrad, ABSN, Graduate form.

• Traditional BSN Students (Mansfield) and Accelerated BSN Students (Dallas) – Use the School of Nursing – Mansfield/Dallas Only – Undergrad/ABSN form.

   

All copies of immunization records, lab reports, and/or health records must be provided prior to the start of the program. Students will not be allowed to register in courses until all records are received and approved by the Office of Institutional Health. The successful completion of the clinical component of your program is essential for graduation. As a result, students will not be able to complete program requirements for graduation without completing the clinical requirement. 

We offer prospective RN to BSN applicants the chance to have their transcripts evaluated prior to applying for admission to ensure you have met the prerequisites and Texas Core Curriculum requirements. To request an evaluation, please follow the steps below.

Step 1

Complete the RN to BSN Prospect Evaluation Request Form HERE.

Note: This transcript evaluation request should be submitted prior to applying to the program.  All applicants to the RN to BSN program will have their official transcripts evaluated as part of the application process.  Do not submit this request if you have already submitted an application for admission.
 

Step 2

Upload unofficial transcripts from all colleges and universities attended to the Request Form in Step 1 OR have your official transcripts sent to us electronically or by mail.

It is highly recommended that official transcripts be sent electronically to SONTranscripts@ttuhsc.edu.

Step 3

Transcript evaluations will be completed once we have received official or unofficial transcripts from all colleges/universities attended.

There is no set timeline for the completion of the evaluation as:

• We must receive the official transcripts from all of your colleges and universities attended.
• Applicant evaluations take precedence over prospective evaluations.

Step 4

Your completed evaluation will be emailed to you at the email address indicated in the request form. Prior to applying to the program, please review the admission requirements.

Once an application is submitted and all supporting materials have been received, the TTUHSC School of Nursing Office of Admissions will conduct an official course evaluation. A transcript evaluation will be sent via email to the address listed on your application.

What is an official Transcript?

An official transcript is a transcript sent to us by the school itself or a service provider such as Credentials Inc., Parchment, and National Student Clearinghouse.

Mailed transcripts must arrived to us in a sealed envelope. Any transcript that arrives already opened will be considered unofficial.

Electronic transcripts must be sent to us by the school you attended; we cannot accept transcripts from applicants/students. We do not accept transcripts attached as PDFs, pictures, or screenshots as official transcripts.

Disclaimer: Please be aware that if the Office of Admissions does receive an official transcript transmitted via the SPEEDE system (either directly from the sending institution or a third-party transcript provider), we may use it to evaluate and process your application.  Therefore, as an applicant or current student, it is important you remain aware that information on transcripts submitted via SPEEDE may not be accurate. It is to your benefit to have the transcript sent to the Office of Admissions either electronically to SONTranscripts@ttuhsc.edu or through the mail.

Where do I send my transcripts?

Electronic Transcripts

It is highly recommended that official electronic transcripts be sent to sontranscripts@ttuhsc.edu. Make sure to keep the confirmation email/transcript order receipt, in the event you need it at some point in the application process.

Mailed Transcripts

If you need to directly mail an official transcript to the TTUHSC School of Nursing, please use the following address:

*Joint Services Transcripts can only be sent to the TTUHSC Registrar’s Office. Once they receive your JST, they will forward it along to our office.

**Our office does not receive a confirmation when a transcript has been delivered via mail.

I just sent my transcripts…what happens next?

Transcripts are processed in the order in which they are received by our office. During high volume seasons (such as the beginning/end of a semester, or right before an application is about to close), please allow for extended processing times.

Once your transcript has been entered into Slate, the updated receipt status will be reflected in your application portal. Your Slate application portal is the best source for updates about your application status and any pending documents you may have.

All transcripts must be received by our office by the application deadline. As long as your transcript was received before the application closed, then it will be accepted with your application even if the application closing date has passed. If your transcript will not arrive until after the application has closed, please reach out to applynursing@ttuhsc.edu to let us know that your transcript will be late.

How do I confirm that my transcript was received by TTUHSC School of Nursing?

Your Slate application portal is the best resource for updates to your application. If it has been over three weeks since you placed your transcript order and your Slate portal has not been updated, email applynursing@ttuhsc.edu with the following information to help us investigate further:

• The school the transcript was from and when you placed the order,
• Whether it was sent electronically or by mail,
• Your transcript order receipt/confirmation email,
• Any other names your transcript could be under (maiden name, name change, etc.)

When can I submit my application?

You can submit your application at any point in the application cycle, whether or not all of your supplemental items have arrived to our office yet. You have until the application closing date to submit all other supplemental items.

How should I send my international transcript(s)?

FOR ALL UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS (TRADITIONAL BSN, RN-BSN, AND ACCELERATED BSN)

Do not send international transcripts to the School of Nursing. Transcripts from schools outside the United States must be evaluated by a Foreign Credential Service. The school requires course-by-course evaluations and will accept evaluated transcripts and diploma information from the following services:

For all graduate programs (MSN, Post-Master's Certificate, BSN to DNP, and Post-Master's DNP)

We only require a foreign transcript evaluation if the degree needed to enroll in the program is from outside the United States. For example, if you are applying to the MSN or BSN to DNP program and your BSN degree is from outside the United States or if you are applying to the Post-Master’s Certificate or Post-Master’s DNP program and your MSN degree is from outside the United States.

If you do need to submit a foreign transcript evaluation for any of the graduate programs, please note that we require an official Credential Evaluation Service Academic Report from CGFNS, Inc. You can find information on ordering on the CGFNS International website. 

How do I get a transcript evaluation?

Undergraduate

 If you’re interested in one of our undergraduate nursing programs, there are two ways you can evaluate your transcript.

Graduate
